How to Care For Your Birdie Bean Bamboo Pjs on Laundry Day

We recently shared why we LOVE bamboo, and why we know that you’re going to love Bamboo too. But we also want you to love your bamboo from Birdie Bean even longer. That’s why in this post we’re going to share how you can take care of your bamboo PJs on laundry day so they last

Our bamboo viscose fabric is a rockstar. It’s durable, breathable, and doesn’t fade easily. With a few easy steps, you’ll be able to get out stains while maintaining the quality and life of your bamboo Birdie Bean. We’ve put together the best care advice so the next time it's laundry day, you’ll know exactly how to wash your bamboo viscose pajamas.

Be gentle

Be careful when you handle zippers and buttons on your bamboo PJs. Our bamboo material is more delicate and could tear if you’re not gentle when snapping buttons.

Separate

Plan a bamboo-specific wash! Chances are you’ve got a few bamboo items, especially if you’ve shopped our family favorites (with sizes for everyone). It’s a lot better for your bamboo viscose pajamas if you wash them on a separate wash with just bamboo.

Turn Inside Out

As with anything that has a zipper, make sure that you turn them inside out before washing. While you definitely need to turn zippered items inside out, we also recommend getting in the habit of turning all of your bamboo PJs inside out when washing.

Wash Cold

Always, ALWAYS wash your bamboo on cold. You should use the coldest setting on your washing machine when running your bamboo load. Most washing machines will have a cold water setting, or you can choose to set the temperature to 30C. Also, make sure that you refrain from running a gentle cycle. This setting tends to allow the pieces to sit/soak in water longer than necessary. If your washing machine has an agitator, try to use a garment bag for added protection as the agitation may cause damage.

Use a Mild Detergent

It’s very important that you use a liquid detergent that is free from dyes and fragrances. And use half what you would normally put in the machine. By using too much detergent you’ll have residue on your PJs that can cause the material to break down faster and it can irritate your little’s skin. We recommend using a mild detergent that’s environmentally friendly, when possible!

Skip the Fabric Softener & Bleach

You also don’t need to use bleach or softener. Bamboo is a soft fabric naturally, so we recommend skipping the softener. It’s also important that you don’t add bleach to your wash. Using bleach when you wash your bamboo viscose pajamas will cause them to wear a lot faster.

Since you’re skipping bleach, we recommend removing stains as they happen instead of waiting for washing day to do it. Kids are messy, we get that! And just like any of your clothing, our bamboo can stain.

At Birdie Bean, we recommend using Oxy Clean or Grandma’s Stain Remover immediately after the stain is found! If the stain is really stubborn, make sure that you soak the item for at least 30 minutes before washing it. And always make sure that you rinse items well before washing.

Line Dry

Lastly, we recommend hanging or lying your bamboo items out to dry. Air drying your bamboo is going to length its life but if you’re in a hurry, make sure that you tumble dry your bamboo on LOW HEAT and a delicate cycle.
