Traditions that We Love This Passover & Easter

Easter and Passover are two of the most significant holidays in the Christian and Jewish calendars respectively, and both are opportunities for families to come together and celebrate the joyous occasion of renewal, hope, and new beginnings.

While Easter is a time for Christian families to reflect on the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Passover is a time for Jewish families to celebrate the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. Whether you celebrate Easter, Passover, or both, there are many ways to create meaningful and lasting traditions that can be passed down to your Birdies. In this blog post, we’ll be exploring some of the most popular family Easter and Passover traditions that you can incorporate into your celebrations.

Before we get into the family traditions of both Passover and Easter, we wanted to share this beautiful connection between both faiths. In Christian tradition, Jesus celebrated a Passover meal with his followers on the day before his crucifixion. This date is marked on the Thursday before Easter Sunday – so the date of Easter is connected to Passover.

Easter & Passover Traditions and Celebrations

Easter Egg Hunt

Of course, it wouldn’t be Easter without an Easter egg hunt. This is a classic tradition that has been enjoyed by families for generations! Whether you’re hosting an indoor or outdoor egg hunt, be sure to hide eggs in fun and creative places. You can also have different categories of eggs, such as plastic eggs filled with candy or special eggs with prizes hidden inside. This tradition can be as simple or elaborate as you like, but it’s always a great way to bring everyone together and have some fun.

Easter Brunch or Dinner

Having a meal as a family at Easter is much the same as Christmas dinner. It’s a great family tradition to establish. Whether you opt for brunch or dinner, be sure to include traditional dishes like deviled eggs and Easter bread. You can add a special touch by decorating the table in pastels and fresh flowers for Spring.

Religious Services

For many families, Easter is a deeply religious holiday, and attending a church service is an important part of their celebrations. Whether you attend a sunrise service or a traditional Easter mass, this is a great way to come together and reflect on the meaning of the holiday.

Passover Seder

For Jewish families, the Passover Seder is the most important part of the holiday. The Seder is a festive meal that is accompanied by the telling of the story of the Exodus from Egypt. This is a great opportunity for families to come together, share a meal, and reflect on the meaning of Passover. The Seder is also a time to remember the struggle for freedom and the importance of helping others who are less fortunate.

Yizkor

Yizkor is a special memorial service that is held on the last day of Passover to honor the memory of loved ones who have passed away. During the service, prayers are recited and candles are lit in memory of the deceased.

Family Outings

Whether it's a picnic in the park, a trip to the beach, or a visit to an amusement park, spending time with your loved ones is one of the best ways to celebrate Easter and Passover. This is a great opportunity to make memories that will last a lifetime.
